The Rhetoric Experience
Twenty-four credits are required for graduation from Regents School of Austin; academic courses are one credit each, and electives are a half credit each. Many students graduate with more than the required number of credits; we work hard to ensure that students with varied interests can take multiple electives, multiple languages, or multiple math/science classes within the school day. Study halls are also offered, but are non-credit courses; athletes can earn one total credit toward graduation, regardless of how many years of how many sports they play.
All students take Bible, Rhetoric, and Apologetics, with Rhetoric II taken senior year and culminating in the Senior Thesis. Literature and History follow the same arc: 9th graders study the Classical period, 10th graders study the Medieval period, 11th graders study European history and literature, and 12th graders study American history and literature. Foreign languages offered include Latin, French, and Spanish.
Freshman and Sophomore class trips are service trips: 9th graders spend several days working with Mission Waco, while 10th graders work with Blueprint Ministries in San Antonio. Juniors see the art and history of London, Paris, Florence, and Rome; seniors visit Washington, D.C.
