A Ten-Acre Sanctuary

Then, as you wait only for a second, the sights and sounds of children exploring God's beauty make a final stamp on your heart.

The Regents Science and Nature Center (RSNC), a ten-acre sanctuary, provides a living forum for students and families to learn about God's creation through interactive, hands-on experience. Students exploring the RSNC learn to identify the rocks, trees, plants, insects, animals, and fish and keep a sketchbook of their discoveries.

"I love this place.
It feels like I'm at camp!"

Plant Life
One often finds Regents students carrying home bags full of vegetables and herbs from their class garden. But that is only part of the experience at the nature center.

The Plant life center includes a Training Room, the Nature Exchange, Greenhouse and Butterfly Pond along with the following areas tended by each Grammar School class:

  • Student Gardens for Grades K-6
  • Gardens for Upper School students, teachers, and administration
  • Butterfly Gardens
  • Compost Bins
  • Herb Gardens
  • Grapevine Arbor

The Training Room houses a variety of tools and supplies for gardening and study. The Nature Exchange is a trading post for exchanging and exhibiting student nature treasures.

Pond Life
Pond life at the science and nature center demonstrates all aspects of life through various rates of water flow.

The pond life area spans a 40,000 gallon pond scape which includes a waterfall, stream, koi pond, bog and Texas native pond. In addition, the area is landscaped with wildlife and grass gardens, wildflower and desert gardens and a native woods area with hopes of becoming a wildlife habitat. With green fishing net in hand, everyone loves to visit the Nature Center pond!  And specifically, all the intricate wonders of pond life are woven throughout our fourth grade curriculum.

Amphitheatre
A little imagination and a lot of parent hands created an outdoor theater situated around an old farm house fireplace. We often have a feeling of being on the campground.

Chimney Rock Amphitheater and Presentation Center is an active spot for school chapel, drama presentations, mini concerts and hoedowns. It also includes a Reading Tree, Picnic Area and Fireplace for those marshmallow roasts after a chilly Regents Knight football game.  Keep walking past the round pen and you will discover Chimney Rock Path, an adventure over the river and through the woods...it eventually connects with the Wildflower and Birdhouse Path which gives way to sights and sounds of hundreds of wildflowers and purple martins every spring.

4-h program
Students are excited to experience life on a farm, in the middle of the city.  4-H students care for various animals, create homegoods and artwork, cook, and develop skills in the creative arts.

Regents 4-H is a community of young people learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.  4-H is about having fun, learning, exploring and discovering.  In 4-H, young people make new friends, develop new skills, become leaders, and help shape their communities. 4-H gives students a chance to pursue their own interest - from building rockets to raising animals to photography.  They go places - to camp, to state and national conferences.  They learn to be leaders and active citizens.

“It doesn't take long to fall in love with this place as you meander down the Wildflower/Birdhouse Path, then cross over the Blessing Bridge only to be greeted by the Bullfrog and Butterfly Pond.  ”
