Student Life
High school is full of adventures. Maturing young men and women find independence in multiple electives and course selections to play to their strengths and interests. Athletic opportunities abound, with many of our teams annually finishing well at a state level. Spirit Fridays allow for some expression beyond standard uniforms, and numerous extracurricular activities mean individuals can pursue their passions.
Athletics |
---|
As part of the TAPPS athletic conference, our teams host and travel to other independent schools in north and central Texas. Fifteen sports, including team (volleyball, football, cheer) and lifetime sports (swimming, tennis, golf), with faithful coaching staff who pursue relationships with the Lord and with students, create an environment where students can grow and thrive. |
Homecoming Week |
---|
While of course there is a Friday night football game, Homecoming Week is an event all to its own. Themed dress up days, the Awkward Lunch, an immersive pep rally celebrating all our fall sports teams, and the first dance of the school year mean the School of Rhetoric is alive with energy and activity. Sit in class next to a student dressed as an aardvark or a giant jar of peanut butter? Watch the track team perform a Taylor Swift song? Cheer for Regents alongside the Knightline Dance Team and Regents Cheerleaders? Welcome back friends who have graduated? Homecoming envelops the school for an exhilarating, and exhausting, five days each fall. |
Mock TriAl |
---|
Mock trial is an extra-curricular activity that develops students’ skills in thinking on their feet under pressure and speaking winsomely and eloquently. Mock trialers perform diverse roles ranging from a firm and controlling attorney to a sympathetic defendant witness. Team members enjoy intellectual competition, are prepared for diligent work (research, writing, memorizing, performing) and learn how to receive constructive feedback. Lastly, they work on their collaboration skills while building friendships through teamwork. |
Academic Council |
---|
The mission of the Academic Council is to provide a voice about academics & student life from the student body to the faculty, to help uphold the classical values of Regents and our education, to better connect students and teachers and to improve the students’ academic experience. They are student leaders who contribute to the school in meaningful ways, from representing the school to parents, prospective families and the community, assisting with specific events or functions of the school, to working with faculty and administration on decisions and planning. |
Service Council |
---|
One of the core values represented in our school crest is service. Regents Service Council is a student led organization that allows students to promote and organize service opportunities for the School of Rhetoric. It provides leadership opportunities and allows students to help build community through serving together. We don't serve just to pad our resumes with community service hours, our service council mission statement is "We believe caring is a way of life". |
Junior Europe Trip |
---|
The vision of the junior Europe trip is to educate and inform students about the world around them today and in their cultural past, so that they can all become more effective servants of Christ and His Kingdom. In Europe, they experience several examples of Western culture studied at Regents, while they gain confidence in their ability to interact with and navigate through a foreign country. The trip is a rite of passage to help prepare students to be senior leaders at Regents. As they plan, navigate, think through decisions and work together, they learn to be more responsible, more considerate and more thoughtful. We want students to have memorable and unique experiences which will enhance their education and prepare them for leadership. |
Senior Pancake Breakfast |
---|
Our dads get up bright and early to prepare breakfast for the senior class as graduation looms close. The pancake breakfast marks the “beginning of the end”, as senior students gear up for their Senior Thesis, make college decisions, and enjoy their final semester. |
Yearbook |
---|
Yearbook staff members attend activities, gather photos, and dream of creative ways to represent a year in the life of a K-12 school, all in the pages of a book. From graphic design to organizational skills to detailed communication with teachers across Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric, Fine Arts, and Athletics, yearbook allows students to learn new technology and deepen relationships. |
Pie Day |
---|
No Pie Until You Apply! The College Advising office, along with numerous parents, host Pie Day each fall to celebrate the seniors’ college application process. Admission ticket to the pizza (pie) and dessert (more pie) event is at least one submitted application. The looming deadline/party is just what some seniors need to let go of those always-refining college essays and push the button. |
