About Kindergarten

Kindergarten at Regents is about exploration and discovery.  From field trips to center time to math and phonics, our students learn by doing.  We begin scripture memorization and Spanish, and do art projects in our classroom.  Kindergarten is half day, and ends at noon; many families choose either 2-day or 5-day Kindergarten Enrichment which meets from noon-3:00 pm.

About Kindergarten Enrichment

Some students choose either 2-day or 5-day Kindergarten Enrichment, an after school program.  While new curricular elements are not introduced in Enrichment, loving teachers play, dream, and supplement classroom instruction with fun and creative activities to delight our young learners.

About 1st Grade

First grade builds on the foundation laid in Kindergarten.  There is continued exposure to Spanish, and our math and language skills are strengthened.  Classes study famous classical composers (with a trip to the Nutcracker Ballet), and enjoy visual arts training.  Read aloud and library time reinforce good reading habits.  We study history, and celebrate a Thanksgiving Feast alongside the Kindergarten students. Outdoor time includes PE and gardening work at the Nature Center, as well as Mammal Day and a field trip to the San Antonio Zoo.

About 2nd Grade

In 2nd grade, we travel back in time learning about Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt.  This history correlates with our study of the Bible books of Genesis to Joshua.  We learn about botany in the classroom and hands on in the Nature Center, and spend a lot of time outside for PE and recess..  Students continue to improve their math skills, and read simple classic literature; classroom read aloud time allows our young readers to hear more advanced stories.

About 3rd Grade

Third graders anticipate a fun, creative year that focuses on Biblical History (Egypt, Greece, and Rome), Earth Science, and simple machines.  We enjoy a Greco-Roman Feast, Greek Olympics, and  a rock and mineral collection.  Spanish class expands to cover cultures of Spanish speaking countries.  After reading Because of Winn-Dixie, we’ll have our own Winn-Dixie picnic. Music class, art class, and PE occur each week.  Third graders serve as reading buddies for the Kindergarten classes and enjoy being leaders and supports for the younger students.

About 4th Grade

Beowulf, King Arthur, and the Fall of Rome through the Reformation:  fourth grade is about medieval and Renaissance history.  Students are immersed in the learning experience by making castle models, celebrating Monk Day, taking a field trip to Newman’s Castle, joining a guild and completing a medieval project, and exploring medieval and Renaissance music and arts. Fourth graders have a couple of firsts: the first overnight field trip, and the first academic subject teacher (math), and continue weekly music, art, PE, and Spanish.

About 5th Grade

The focus for 5th graders is on leaders and explorers.  In PE, students participate in various sports with an emphasis on leadership skills.  History focuses on Early Exploration through the American Revolution.  Science delves into navigation, weather, the solar system and rocketry.  We spend a few days at NASA, and build and launch our own rockets.  This year students are introduced to Latin.  In Bible we study the Gospels.  Students start each day in Homeroom, learn each subject from subject specialist teachers, and begin Band, Choir, or Orchestra.

About 6th Grade

Early American Government through the Civil War are on tap for 6th grade.  We have field trips including  the Bob Bullock State History Museum and the State Capitol, as well as a multi-day trip to the Hill Country.  Art and literature selections complement our history lessons.  The Hobbit is a favorite 6th grade book, the reading of which culminates with our very own Hobbit Day.  We learn about Physical Science,  and we build our own complicated Rube Goldberg projects.  Latin skills improve, we complete our reading of the New Testament, continue to develop as artists, and continue musical study.
